Who We Are And What We Do
We are a volunteer group of Radio Amateurs that work in coordination with The National Weather Service in Norton Massachusetts.
SKYWARN is a concept developed in the late 1960s that was
intended to promote a cooperative effort between the National
Weather Service and communities. The emphasis of the effort is
often focused on the storm spotter, an individual who takes a
position near their community and reports wind gusts, hail size,
rainfall, and cloud formations that could signal a developing
tornado. Another part of SKYWARN is the receipt and effective
distribution of National Weather Service information.

CoCoRahs

|
CoCoRaHS is a grassroots volunteer network of
backyard weather observers of all ages and backgrounds working
together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow)
in their local communities. By using low-cost measurement tools,
stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive
Web-site, our aim is to provide the highest quality data for
natural resource, education and research applications. The only
requirements to join are an enthusiasm for watching and
reporting weather conditions and a desire to learn more about
how weather can effect and impact our lives.

Net Control Stations Needed
|
One of the biggest challenges facing
weather and SKYWARN nets, is the need for NCS stations.
As you know, the weather nets are usually held each Thursday
at 9 P.M. This type of net is kept very informal, and
is an excellent training medium for future NCS stations.
Being an NCS is very rewarding, and I hope you think about doing
this, and supporting the Skywarn program here in Hartford and
Tolland counties.
